Protecting the professionals that protect us.
Emergency service providers play an important role in the prevention and control of infections. Ambulance and Air Ambulance crews and other emergency responders are at the front line of medical care and, and along with law enforcement officers and correctional facilities staff, have a high risk of exposure to patients and people with known or unknown infectious diseases or germs. The emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria such as
Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and viruses such as COVID-19 are major problems facing all healthcare, law enforcement, and emergency providers worldwide. In a recent study published in the American Journal of Infection Control, a
Staph aureus sample was found in 69% of ambulances tested. This study concluded that meticulous application of cleaning & disinfecting methods is necessary to prevent further spread of these harmful pathogens in the pre-hospital environment.
Disease causing microorganisms can live on objects and surfaces for extended periods and can spread infection to anyone contacting the infected surfaces.
Vivotec Solution:
Regularly cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces like door handles, light switches, stretchers, and other commonly touched interior surfaces significantly reduces infection risk for staff, patients or other occupants.
Vivotec’s range of electrostatic misters and ULV foggers coupled with fast acting disinfectants provide a rapid an effective means of regularly sanitising to provide a clean, odour free environment. After transporting a patient, it takes less than a minute to mist/fumigate the entire cabin of an ambulance, with the very fine mist of 40 microns or less reaching every small corner. The fine mist settles on all exposed surfaces and dries in less than 10 minutes, meaning the ambulance is ready go again very quickly.
Misting is a contactless method of disinfecting, greatly reducing the risk of infection for staff, and reduces the time required to disinfect a typical area by approx 70% compared to traditional spraying and wiping, while also providing much more complete coverage with 65% less disinfectant use, greatly reducing labour and consumable costs.
Equipment Recommendation:
-
Due to the low amount of airborne mist, Electrostatic sprayers are the best option for use where regular disinfection is required, and other people may be present during the process. Electrostatic misting also has a 3D wrap around effect giving better all around coverage of objects without having to spray or wipe from multiple different angles to get coverage as with traditional methods

The VP200ES Cordless Electrostatic hand-held sprayer and Vivo- DIGIPRO Cordless are perfect for quick, targeted disinfecting of vehicle interiors and exterior touch points while out in the field of duty. The VP200 also comes in a versatile soft side carry bag for added convenience and damage protection. Disinfectant coverage of approx. 260m2 per 1L tank fill.
-
For ‘back at base’ disinfecting between callouts, the VIVO-ECO mains powered unit is also a good option.
Disinfectant Recommendation:
Due to their non-toxic nature, AHP disinfectants are safe for application around people and applicator PPE is not required, unless there is high concentration of airborne mist, in which case respiratory protection is desirable to avoid possible nasal irritation.
Important Note: To avoid surface tarnishing or streaking, AHP disinfectants are not recommended for use on brass, copper, exposed raw steel/cast iron or zinc coatings. See data sheet for full materials compatibility.
