In response to the coronavirus pandemic, hotel groups around the world are announcing new cleaning programmes to reassure guests

With Hotels, by their very nature, being at the forefront of any potential viral outbreak re-occurrence, it is vital effective measures are implemented to minimise risk of transmission amongst guests, staff, and other visitors.

Leading Hotel chains worldwide are turning to technology as the answer to improving cleanliness in their Hotels, including electrostatic sprayers with hospital-grade disinfectants to sanitise surfaces throughout the hotel. The sprayers allow house keeping staff to rapidly clean and disinfect areas and can be used in a hotel setting to disinfect guest rooms, lobbies, gyms, elevators, dining and restaurant areas, corridors including door handles, handrails, public phones, toilet and washroom areas etc, as well as customer services such as airport shuttle vans and chauffeured vehicles.

A spokesperson for one major chain says of their sanitising programme that “Electrostatic spraying technology uses the highest classification of disinfectants recommended by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) to treat known pathogens. All areas that are considered ‘high-touch’ will be “thoroughly treated with hospital-grade disinfectants” and disinfecting wipes will also be provided in each room for guests’ personal use”.

With guests increasingly particular with regards to hygiene standards, can your organisation afford to do less?

Vivotec Solution:

Regularly cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces like door knobs, light switches, tables and chairs, shared equipment and facilities, dining & social areas, toilet and washing facilities, along with a programme of full room disinfection, significantly reduces infection risk for guests, staff, and visitors.

Vivotec’s range of electrostatic misters and ULV foggers coupled with fast acting disinfectants provide a rapid an effective means of regularly sanitising to provide a clean, odour free environment.

Misting is a contactless method of disinfecting, greatly reducing the risk of infection for staff, and reduces the time required to disinfect a typical area by approx. 70% compared to traditional spraying and wiping, while also providing much more complete coverage with 65% less disinfectant use, greatly reducing labour and consumable costs.

Equipment Recommendation:

  • Due to the low amount of airborne mist, Electrostatic sprayers are the best option for use where regular disinfection is required, and other people may be present during the process. Electrostatic misting also has a 3D wrap around effect giving better all-around coverage of objects without having to spray or wipe from multiple different angles to get coverage as with traditional methods
  • The VP200ES Cordless Electrostatic hand-held sprayer and Vivo- DIGIPRO Cordless ULV fogger are perfect for quick, targeted disinfecting of individual rooms and facilities and exercise equipment, lobby counters, elevator buttons & interiors, vehicle interiors etc. The VP200 also comes in a versatile soft side carry bag for added convenience. Disinfectant coverage of approx. 260m2 per 1L tank fill.
  • For broader scale disinfection of larger rooms and common areas, lobbies, gyms, corridors etc the VP300ES cordless electrostatic backpack sprayer or the VIVO-MAX / VIVO-DUOMAX ULV foggers could be good options, giving over 2200m2 of disinfectant coverage per tank fill.

Disinfectant Recommendation:

Due to their non-toxic nature, AHP and NaDCC disinfectants are safe for application around people and applicator PPE is not required, unless there is high concentration of airborne mist, in which case respiratory protection is desirable to avoid possible nasal irritation.

Important Note: To avoid surface tarnishing or streaking, AHP & NaDCC are not recommended for use on brass, copper, marble, exposed raw steel/cast iron or zinc coatings. See data sheet for full materials compatibility.

  • Oxivir AHP disinfectant and wipes are perfect for use in Hotel environments, having the lowest EPA toxicity rating available, breaking down into oxygen and water minutes after application, leaving no residue or odour.
  • For applications such as such as outdoor dining/social areas, handrails, entry areas, stairwells, gyms/exercise equipment, staff locker rooms etc, Vivotecs Klorsept NaDCC disinfectant is an alternative solution. The effervescent tablets provide a very effective, fast acting, yet economical and easy to use solution which doesn’t require special measuring or mixing procedures – simply add the required number of tablets per litre of tap water, let them dissolve for a few minutes then you’re ready to go. Note: NaDCC has a slight chlorine odour when applied. While this quickly dissipates it could possibly cause respiratory irritation for guests with asthmatic tendencies or other sensitivities so is not recommended for use in guest rooms.
